10.2 miles from Cherokee Lake
This is a roomy (for the number of bedrooms) stunningly beautiful, authentic log home on a 70 acre estate on the shore of Douglas Lake in a perfect location. It is the main house for the estate, and there is a small house that is also available for short term rentals. Those are the only two homes on the estate. Check out the Google location function and description for more about the property.
This is not a normal rental place. It is a luxury home built specifically as the flagship home for Hearthstone, Inc, the premier log & timber home manufacturing company in the country. It was featured in Log Home Living in July 2001. Look around a bit and you'll find a great article about it.
The wonderful feature about this property is that, despite the perfect location, it feels like you are off in a peaceful world by yourself. The cabin is at the end of a peninsula with a half mile driveway away from the nearest road, and is surrounded by 28,000 acre lake.
Literally, there is no other piece of rental property near here to compare in terms of beauty, location, activities, ease of access to interstates, and many attractions - without sacrificing peace, quiet, tranquility, and privacy.
Douglas Lake is a premier destination recreational and fishing lake with over 28,000 acres, more than 500 miles of shore line, and more than 30 miles long. However, because there are so many large lakes in the area, Douglas, relative to many lakes in most of the country, is still quiet, without much traffic, and a relaxing place to be.
This home is located less than a mile from Dandridge, a charming, very old town. The Point Marina is less than a mile away. It is less than 12 miles to Sevier County, which is home of many vacation, shopping, camping, hiking, and tourist day trips. Just 3 miles from Interstate 40, Exit 417. Knoxville is 30 miles away.
On the property, there is a dock. And, pontoon boat is available for rent. And there are usually kayaks and canoes around for free.
There are horses that are sometimes available to rent, but, of course, only to experienced riders, and only with a guide. Inexperienced riders might get to ride in a safe enclosure. You would have to inquire whether they are available during your trip.
There are a couple of miles of trails for hiking, and camping sites on the property. There is a recreation barn that is shared with either our family or visitors in the other house. It includes an indoor basketball hoop, a fully equipped free weights gym, and boxing equipment ... all of that is for experienced athletes only.
The home is approximately 4,000 square feet, lots of porch, patio, fire pit, garden, and permanent masonry wood fired grill and smoker. There is a master suite on the first floor, a fully equipped chef-level kitchen, huge dining room, and living room with fireplace on the first floor.
On the second floor, there are 3 bedrooms. Two have full sized beds. One has bunk beds with two hammocks in a very cool third floor loft above the bedroom. A tree is climbed to get to the loft, which kids love.
There are two full bathrooms on the second floor.
On the third level, there are two lofts. One is above the bunk bed room, and the other is a bedroom accessible by ladder.
That arrangement allows for 8 people to live with full "home-like" space. More people can be fit in with permission. For example, there are two Mayan sleeping hammocks in the loft above the bunk bed room, that many kids have slept in over the years.
There are many rental "log cabins" in this area. Most of them are poorly constructed, stacked one atop the other, and in impossible locations. This one is very noticeably different, and your visit here will be a very, very different experience from any other rental in this area. Think Blackberry Farm, but just you and your family (perhaps one other family in the guest house ... or rent that house too) on 70 private acres and a lake. Although, you do have to pamper yourselves. Sadly, we don't have the pampering capabilities as Blackberry does!
This is a true reproduction of the cabins that were built in this area 200 years ago, but with all the modern conveniences, and 70 acres of private property. This cabin actually is a home. It was not built as a rental cabin, and you can tell the difference.
